RV There Yet?

Sorry it’s been so long!

WOW - I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve updated. Life has just been trucking along - all good, but busy. Today is the final day of our September project, so here is a brief recap -
WORK - The ladies did a little end of season cleaning, a LOT of laundry folding, some organizing, and some waitressing. I don’t think any of us will ever stay at a hotel/motel without thinking about the amount of laundry that has to be processed. Our motto - when in doubt about what to do - head to the laundry! We always worked as a team, so all the jobs went fast and were (for the most part!) fun. Most of the men were busy doing roofing, but Gary was busy fixing A/C units. Since we had been at Sandy Cove in the spring, the maintenance staff knew that “the A/C guy” was coming back, so they had saved up some work for him. He’s a pretty popular guy!
PLAY – Well, we certainly fit a lot of “stuff” into our time here! We did the RV Show in Hershey, PA, did some shopping and had dinner with Josiah and Abigail, visited with a dear Sower friend on a Sunday afternoon, checked out some of the local towns and shops and spent a day a little further south at a marina in Tolchester Beach, MD with friends. Not to mention the great time we had just fellowshipping with the gang here at Sandy Cove. We played cards, ate most of our meals together (provided by Sandy Cove – what a blessing!), and checked out the local ice cream stores. (All in the name of research, of course).

The Bottom Line – it has been a GREAT project filled with many, many blessings and sweet memories. It’s always sad when a project ends and each of us moves on to our next project or destination. Yet a favorite Sower saying goes – “we’ll see you again, here or there, or in the air.” Amen.

So what’s next? Well, some pretty exciting stuff is right around the corner for us. Next weekend we are having the First Dwinell Reunion (that’s my side of the family!) right here at Sandy Cove! All four of the Dwinell siblings will be there along with 11 of the 13 cousins (plus appropriate spouses) and 10 of the 11 grandchildren. WHOEEEEE! We haven’t had a big family gathering since Thanksgiving 2002 so I am very excited that this has all come together. I’m sure there will be some glitches along the way, but I’m hopeful that this will be the beginning of a wonderful tradition.

But this weekend will be fun too! We’re headed to Perry County, PA for a “work-weekend” – my niece and family have just moved into a wonderful fixer-upper so we’re going to lend a hand. It will be like a pre-reunion treat for me. Yum!

Ready for some pictures?
These two were taken by fellow Sower John Stoner - I was pretty lax about taking my camera places this month!

And here are the old folks playing shuffleboard - but, oh, what a backdrop!

And from our extra curricular activities -
Our day in Tolchester - sunny at the marina…

Not so sunny when we went out fishing….

Another gray day when we went to Chesapeake City, but it was “Girls’ Day Out”, so we had a grand time nonetheless.

Oh, and the ice cream research? One final stop tonight with our whole gang - Kilby Cream. GREAT Ice Cream and GREAT Flavors (and the only place I’ve ever seen where ice cream cones/dishes are sold by the ounce!). Ah, the sacrifices we make for the cause of research! :)

A quick trip to D-town

Filed under: The Adventure — steph @ 5:53 pm

We took a quick trip up to Doylestown yesterday. Gary had to meet the tow truck that was coming to take his work truck off to Keswick. It felt good to get that last piece of the “previous life” puzzle taken care of. And we know that the folks at Keswick will find good use for it.
But, while he was waiting around for the tow, I was yard saleing (is that a word?) with Joe and Janet. It’s a Saturday morning tradition with them, and I was happy to ride along. I picked up a great little casserole dish, a funky beaded necklace, a great black skirt, a beautiful sweater set, 5 books on tape, two pillow forms, and a novel – all for $6.19. What fun!

Back to Maryland for a quiet evening at home.

And church today?
We attended a small service right at the campground. There were only 13 of us – but we were joined by a pair of eagles soaring overhead. Ah the majesty of it all.

but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

May we introduce…..

Filed under: The Adventure, Family and Friends — steph @ 10:10 pm

A while back I posted the good news of Josiah’s engagement to Abigail. The “she said yes” photo left quite a bit to be desired in the ‘just who is she?’ department.

So – I am pleased to introduce Abigail Schleinkofer, the love of my youngest son’s life. They met at Lancaster Bible College and reconnected earlier this year. Josiah has moved to Lancaster (where Abigail is living, though she is originally from Philadelphia), has begun his new job, and is looking forward to being married. Wedding date? Right now they are looking at Spring 2007. Guess we’re staying on the East Coast for a little while yet!
Here is the happy couple –

We’re delighted for them both!

35 Years

Filed under: The Adventure — steph @ 10:55 pm

Today is our 35th wedding anniversary. As my sister said - Wow, how did that happen so fast?
To celebrate the big day we volunteered to help serve lunch and dinner to 400+ guests at Sandy Cove, plus Gary showed me a couple of plaques in the gift shop that expressed his feelings. How romantic (and economic)! We touched base with all the kids (always a great day when that happens), and each of us got naps. Who says “Young Love” gets all the good stuff. I think “old love” is pretty dang great!
Oh, and we decided to re-up for another 35:).
