We had a fun little jaunt down to Panama City today to pick up a load of insulation. On the way we got to stop at the dentist (good news though, no big dental work required!), and since it was a beautiful day (though chilly) we had a nice time on the road. Here he is - with the trailer mostly loaded - Pretty creative use of a horse trailer, don’cha think!

We pass this house on the way to PC - and today we stopped to take a picture. I think in a couple of years it will be totally reclaimed by the earth!

And the last shot of the day is a little roadside art. I don’t think it’s currently a functioning shop, but at one time I bet it served up a mean ice cream cone!

So aside from our little outing, the rest of the day was quiet. It’s nice having a day off (well, for me anyway. Gary did work the rest of the afternoon) in the middle of the week. I finished a book, watched Little House on the Prairie, and generally loafed. Tomorrow it’s back to the kitchen for me - I think I’m making Tater Tot Casserole.
Freeze warning tonight - maybe it’s the last one of the season?
It’s 70 degrees right now, but by tonight it will be dropping to the 30’s. And you know what that means….”Severe T-Storm Watch is in effect”. This really has been a winter of weather events!
Yesterday 8 new boys arrived as inductees here at Teen Challenge. I was privileged to meet some of the parents and sit with them in the moments after they left their sons with the drill instructors. Since virtually all of the boys come against their will and their farewells were not full of hugs and kisses, it was a very emotional time for these moms and dads. Tears, silence, doubt, relief, and more tears. Single moms, single dads, couples that realized a drastic step was needed to save their sons from a direction that was leading to destruction. Please pray for these boys and their families. The next time these parents will see their sons will be in June and they won’t have them home again until May 2009. It’s a hard time for all of them. My heart was breaking with theirs yesterday, but I was also filled with hope for the work of the Spirit in these young men’s lives.
Wind is picking up - could be a wild day!
Ok, yesterday it rained like I haven’t seen rain in a long time (and it’s been pretty rainy here this winter!). Yesterday gave the phrase “heavy at times” a whole new meaning. Like 8-10 inches of HEAVY AT TIMES!!!! We pretty much just stayed in our cozy home and treated it like a snow day. (You know, a good book, a couple of naps, playing with my new Photoshop Elements 6 program……
). It was even raining as we went to bed. Geeeeezzzzz.
Saturday morning was still cloudy, but we decided to head west to DeFuniak Springs for a local quilt show. The sun broke out on our way and it turned into a day just as lovely as the day before had been ugly. DeFuniak Springs was hosting the Chautauqua Winter Assembly and the quilt show was part of the weekend’s activities. We enjoyed the quilt show along with the art show at the same location, and then took a leisurely drive around the perfectly round (though swollen from all the rain) lake. There are wonderful turn of the century homes all around the lake, and as a bonus the camellias are in full bloom right now - and I couldn’t resist a couple of shots!
Tonight we said good-bye to our dear friends Joan and Bob who head north to Pennsylvania (silly them!). We had worked with them three years ago and totally enjoyed getting to work (and play) with them again for the last two months. I know it’s kind of hokey, but it’s true - Friends are Friends forever, if the Lord’s the Lord of them. Safe travels, good buddies!!
Ok, even though we’re here in Florida if you’ve been reading along this winter, you know we’ve had some pretty darn cold weather. So I am happy to report that there are definate signs of spring appearing. I noticed leaf buds on some of the shrubs this morning, and just outside the rig I saw these lovely spring flowers….

And if it’s starting here, I’m sure it will be coming to a neighborhood near you soon!
And now a Happy Birthday shout out to our daughter-in-law Tammy She’s been part of our family for the last 7 (or so) years, and we have been blessed to call her our daughter. She loves the Lord, she loves our son, and she’s a wonderful mother to our three granddaughters. We love you, Tammy - Happy, Happy Birthday!
