So many pictures – and so little time….

I’ve been playing with a new (free!) photo editing software (since my regular photo software is with my computer visiting with the Geek Squad) and have made a couple of collages that represent my week with the kids.
First of all – my time in the air. Now, I confess that since I don’t fly very often, I consider myself to be a nervous flyer. After all, that plane is pretty darn heavy….. But I have found that a window seat and my trusty camera has helped distract me from the changes in engine noise.

Another highlight of the trip was the Big Girls Only mini-retreat. We spent the afternoon and evening in downtown Columbus (eating and getting pedicures), enjoyed a night at a lovely hotel, had a yummy breakfast and then joined the rest of the gang at COSI.

Which naturally brings us to COSI – Center of Science and Industry. What an excellent hands-on museum!

Lara, Josiah and Abigail left on Sunday, and then on Monday we enjoyed a great (though hot) day at the Columbus Zoo.

When we weren’t out at “special events” we spent a lot of time at neighborhood playgrounds, playing Bingo and The Ladybug Game, and generally hanging out. It was a very special week – especially since we might not be able to get together again until the holidays.

Back home

Washington Mountains above the clouds
Home. That wonderful place where all your stuff is. The place where your bed lives. And no matter how outstanding a vacation or trip is (and this one was), it is always nice to be home. I have lots of stories to tell about my trip to see the kids and grandgirls – stories of frogs and flamingos, pedicures and pendulums, bike rides and ball chasing. But tonight, I’ll just leave you with a great shot of all my kids and grandkids outside the COSI Museum in Columbus.

Outstanding!

OK – so the first picture has nothing to do with Home or my kids – it’s one of the first pictures I took on my flight east – the Washington mountains poking up above the clouds. I just liked it, so I thought I would share! 🙂

My bags are packed, and I’m ready to go…

Almost Sunset
Tomorrow morning at 3:30AM Gary and I will be dragging ourselves out of bed to make the 1 1/2 hr. drive to the Seattle airport for me to catch a 6:40 flight to Columbus and kids and grandkids. It is obviously the last part of the sentence that makes the whole 3:30AM part worth it. 🙂 I’ll be with the kids for almost a week, and I’m not taking my computer (it’s still visiting with its new friends at the Geek Squad) so it might be pretty quiet here for a bit.
But you never know – maybe I can borrow some computer time from Toby and Tammy!
Have a good week!
mmmmmm…..hugs on the horizon!

Tulips and Bridges and Forts and Mount Baker

Skagit Tulips
After a week of cool and rainy weather (otherwise known as Springtime in Washington State), Saturday dawned with promises of a lovely, warmer (if not blue sky sunny) day. We joined forces with another Sower couple who are “locals”, and took the day to check out the area.
We drove through the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival – but since it has been so cool, most of the fields were just beginning to flower. We did find a couple of fields that were struttin’ their stuff –
Skagit Tulips
and the daffodils were also in full bloom-

I think the fields will be in full glory in a week or so – so I’m I’m hoping that we’ll get back again.
This fellow followed us around the entire day –
Mt. Baker
Mt. Baker -You’ll see him again before the day is through!
From the tulips we were heading to Whidbey Island and Deception Pass.
Deception Pass Bridge
Even though the day wasn’t all that pretty, it was pretty impressive bridge and waterway!

We could have taken a jet boat trip through the passageway, but decided to spend the money on lunch instead!
Here’s the view from our lovely little cafe in Coupeville –

Coupeville was a cute little touristy town – I’m sure it’s hoppin’ in the summer!

We had one more stop planned – Fort Casey.
Fort Casey State Park is a 467-acre marine camping park with a lighthouse and sweeping views of Admiralty Inlet and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A coast artillery post features two historic guns on display. The park features 10,810 feet of saltwater shoreline on Puget Sound (Admiralty Inlet), and includes Keystone Spit, a two-mile-plus stretch of land separating Admiralty Inlet and Crocket Lake.
Now you know.
And now you can see……

And one more lighthouse….

From Ft. Casey we turned back north and enjoyed a lovely drive home, sticking as close to the Sound as we could. So while the day didn’t turn out to be quite as warm and sunny as the weatherman had predicted, it was still a great day to be out and about – checking out some of this area’s natural (and not-so- natural) beauty.
