I guess I should clarify – the title of this hymn is actually “Our Best”, but in our circle we call it the SOWER Song. It was written in 1912 by Salathiel C. Kirk and Grant C. Tullar, and I confess that I had never even heard it before we began our SOWER journey. It’s not the peppiest of songs, and truthfully is not even one of my favorite songs. But when a room full of SOWERS gathers at the end of devotions and this song is sung – well, it sets the tone for the day. I’ve included a video of just the melody since maybe (probably) you’ve never heard it before either. One of these days I’ll have to record a SOWER group giving this hundred year old hymn our best!
Hear ye the Master’s call, “Give Me thy best!”
For, be it great or small, that is His test.
Do then the best you can, not for reward,
Not for the praise of men, but for the Lord.
Every work for Jesus will be blest,
But He asks from everyone his best.
Our talents may be few, these may be small,
But unto Him is due our best, our all.
