The Last Week

The last week of a SOWER project can go two ways. Either there is a major push to finish a job, or it’s kind of laid back-too late to start a new project – week. While I think the guys were busy knocking items off of their punch list, we ladies were blessed with a lovely low-impact week. In fact, it was quite a delight!
Monday we reported to the kitchen for our assignments. Two ladies headed off to a lightly used room that needed a quick cleaning, and two of us hung around the kitchen, put away dishes, worked on the kitchen laundry,  and eventually we all pitched in to wash some toys!

Tuesday we were on lunch prep –

and we all enjoy that! Even the onion chopping!
Our bosses, Beverly and Esther, decided that Wednesday was a good day for the six of us to head to Black Mountain for some coffee and fun shopping. And who were we to argue???

Black Mountain is filled lots of interesting artsy-craftsy shops, and while I can’t say that any of those fun shops are going to be able to make payroll on our purchases, it was lovely to “shop” in this lovely town!  It was a very special Wednesday!
Thursday it was back in the kitchen!

Chicken salad, anyone??? =)
What a fun Last Week!

Oh, the guys? Well, I know they were all kept busy the entire three weeks and managed to check off ALL the items on their job list! But since they were all working in different areas, it was hard to get pictures. Here is one photo I took this week of Gary –

Pretty sure I recognize that shoe….

In anticipation

of the National Parks possibly closing at midnight yesterday, we made sure we got to the Oconaluftee Visitors Center and Farm Museum of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

There is a brand spankin’ new visitor’s center there (open just a week!) that we wanted to check out
Great Smoky Mtn NP-1
along with the Farm Museum and riverwalk.

The day was certainly less than bright and sunny, but we enjoyed both the farm museum and the river walk.

Here’s my best guess at identifying them –

This one didn’t make the collage because I liked the river in the background –

Yes, it was a lovely morning!
Later in the day we did a little bit of exploring in the Deep Creek section of the park, which is actually less than a mile from where we’re parked! Gary was mostly checking out the fishing situation (he just got a 10 day North Carolina fishing license), but I was intent on doing at least a short hike to one of the many waterfalls in this area.

Success!
Even without the sunshine, it was still a lovely day. We didn’t get rained on, we got in a fair amount of exercise (for us, anyway), and were blessed to see some of the beauty that is found here in NW North Carolina!

Pssst….there are some additional pictures here! 🙂
