Black Lake – Week One

We’ve already finished our first week of work at Black Lake Camp (Olympia, WA), and it’s been a good one! We’re working some ‘old friends’ Roy and Lola – folks we’ve worked with a couple of times before, and also some new friends – Tim and Glenda, who are just on their second SOWER project. (We’re doing our best to ‘break ’em in’ right!)
After a cool and drizzly weekend (hey, we’re right outside of Seattle. That’s pretty normal for this time of year), we woke up Monday to streaming sunshine and bright blue skies!

(We’re still pretty enamored with all the GREEN here!)
And we got right to work!!!
The guys started out moving some gas pipe on the roof of the dining hall –

Hello, Gary!! Whatcha doin’ up there?

Looked like all the guys were getting into the roof action!
Once they got that job done, there was a new door (on the right) in the pool house to install

and boards to replace on the dock.

While Gary and Roy were busy sitting on the dock by the bay, Tim was busy in the shop painting boards in preparation for massive picnic table repairs that will be accomplished next week. Unfortunately, I never accomplished getting a picture of him! Sorry, Tim! Coming up next week is a big bathroom remodel – so they still have plenty on their list!
And we ladies? Well, we’ve been busy too!
We had painting and sewing on our list. Due to a medical condition, Lola can’t paint, she tackled the sewing projects.   Glenda and I put on our paint clothes and got to work. They needed a cabin (interior) totally painted. Three small bedrooms and a living/kitchenette area. Now if you know me at all, painting is not very high on my list of fun things to do. But I’m getting better – both in attitude and skill. And that’s a good thing. Glenda, on the other hand, LOVES to paint. Not only does she love to paint rooms, she also paints pictures and murals and such fun things. So while I was doing this kind of painting –

Glenda was working on THIS type of painting –

By the end of the week, we had the main room (almost)done and had begun one of the bedrooms

and Glenda had completed her two (very excellent) camp store signs!

Like I said – it was a good week!
The weekend weather forecast is looking pretty good, so I’m hopeful that we’ll get to do some tourist-ing after we get some chores done. The camp will be hopping with guests, so it will be fun to see it in action. There might be just a little bit of Mt. Rainier in our future!

But first – the Laundry!

Thanks for stopping by!
