A Trip to town

Our little town of Lindale has just about anything you would need in the way of stores – a couple of grocery stores, several good restaurants, a Walmart, and (most importantly) Lowes.  But even with all of those good options, we still usually take a weekly trip into the Big City – Tyler! Tyler has a multitude of shopping options – and today we took advantage of many of them.

  1. Haircut! First stop and well overdue!
  2. Tyler recycling where we got rid of bins and bins of glass and plastic our community has been collecting.
  3. Habitat for Humanity Restore – first time here and I walked out with an ironing board ($5)!
  4. UPS store to facilitate a return
  5. Joann Fabric Store – Batting for a quilt I’m working on.
  6. Picked up sandwiches at Jimmy Johns (ate half and finished them up for dinner. Score!)
  7. Stopped at Torchy’s Tacos for some take-out Queso (we had a coupon to get it free! Couldn’t pass that up!) Lunch tomorrow?
  8. Sam’s Club – where we spent too much but also got gas for $2.36/gal
  9. Aldi – short stop, but we never pass up an Aldi. (Eggs were available @5.47/doz. Thankfully we did not need any).
  10. Walmart – needed a cover for the ironing board and a couple of other odds and end.
  11. Back home by 2, just in time to put the cold stuff away and settle in for a nap!

The deep freeze  is on its way (not expected to get out of the 20’s tomorrow!) – so it’s good we got all of our errands done today. Pretty sure tomorrow will be a good day to stay home! Those Tyler trips can get pretty expensive, but we’re glad we were able to check so many things off our list (and maybe a couple things that weren’t!)

Thanks for stopping by!

First Things First

Now that Gary had his work platform done, he moved on to his next big project-building the deck! We already had nice landing at the side door, but it wasn’t very functional to be used as outside space. We have a nice live oak tree for shade (and falling acorns and leaves too), and felt that the space to the back of the house called for a good sized deck.

But we also had a 150# (full) propane tank (weighing approx. 800#) right behind the landing.

There was no way a deck was going to built around that and while there was a little chatter about some of the guys in the neighborhood (?? remember, we’re some of the younger folks on the block!) moving it, smarter heads prevailed and we called the local propane company. They showed up with their fancy boom truck and got right too it!

It was so fun to watch, even some of the neighbors stopped by to watch the move!

Once that was accomplished, the real fun (well, in Gary’s book at least) could begin!

February Eleventh

Did you know  February 11th  is National Make A Friend Day? Here is what the Internet tells me about this celebration –

NATIONAL MAKE A FRIEND DAY

Always observed on February 11th, National Make A Friend Day is a fantastic opportunity to meet someone new and make a new friendship. Friends serve a vital role in everyone’s lives. They are one of life’s most valuable assets.

#NationalMakeAFriendDay

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light”  – Helen Keller

New friends can broaden our horizons by helping us to see new perspectives, challenging us to try something different, or connecting us to opportunities. Meeting new people can help sharpen our social skills and keep us from becoming lonely.

I’m happy to report that since we are in a new (to us) neighborhood – and have been here for three plus months (as opposed to three plus weeks)  we’ve been celebrating “Make a Friend Day” quite frequently.  While we already knew several couples that live here (there are about 60 dwellings), it’s been a delight to get to know (or get to know better) so many good folk! Gary often joins the ‘guys’ for coffee in the afternoon where they solve the problems of the world (or at least discuss the best place for Texas BBQ), and I’ve enjoyed the weekly Bible Study group and have even found some lovely walking buddies!

So while today may be the National Make A Friend Day, it’s more than that for us. We are full-steam ahead in Make A Friend Season! And it’s been grand!

Thank you, friends, for stopping by!

Some Clarification

After yesterday’s post about what I’ve been doing lately, I got asked the following question from a SOWER we’d worked with several years ago –
What are you doing with a fully furnished house? Is this your own home wherever your home is? And are you downsizing your rig? Are you preparing to retire?

So – since some of you who drop in here occasionally might have some of the same questions, here is my reply that sorta-kinda describes what these last months have been all about!

Hello! We are in ‘transition’ mode these days! We purchased a house in the sweet RV community behind the SOWER office in Lindale as we prepare for the inevitable ‘what’s next’ stage of our life! But while we’re on our way to retiring from being active SOWERs, we aren’t there yet! Our faithful rig is 22+ years old, and we think she’s ready for retirement even if we are not! So it’s a shift in ministry focus – but praying that the LORD will still use us wherever we might be!

And so this NEW adventure continues…

But what are YOU doing?

While Gary’s been busy making trips to Lowes and renovating sewing rooms and building workspaces and redesigning walkways, I’ve been trying to figure out the interior of the house. Some of my angst comes from the fact that this sweet little house came completely furnished. Not just furniture (and there was a lot of that), but it also came with linens, towels, a fully outfitted kitchen, cleaning supplies, soaps, shampoos…you name it, and it was probably here! I do believe that if we had just come with our clothes, we wouldn’t have had to do anything but go grocery shopping to live here quite comfortably.  But of course, we also had a motorhome that was full (and I mean 20 years of stuff full) of our life. It’s been hard for me to figure out how to mesh these two dwellings. Even now, after almost four months, I’m still trying to remember where I put something….or maybe it’s still in the rig?

So for the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to bring SOMETHING (or maybe many things) in from the rig, and then find a home for it (them) each day.  Now, it might just be the earrings I wanted to wear that day, but it’s something!

And speaking of earrings – I cut down my earring solution from a couple of years ago to fit in my new space,

and let Amazon help me find a solution for my necklaces.

These are small things, but figuring these small things out has helped me get moving on this transition.

Today I brought in my box of Kosher salt.
It’s in the cupboard next to the sugar and flour.
No judging, please!
=)

I wonder what I’ll find to bring in tomorrow…
