I learned two valuable lessons this month.
Number One –
Do not try to use duct tape while wearing gloves.
Number Two –
Do not ask Gary to smile for a picture.
What a goofball!
The last week of a SOWER project can go two ways. Either there is a major push to finish a job, or it’s kind of laid back-too late to start a new project – week. While I think the guys were busy knocking items off of their punch list, we ladies were blessed with a lovely low-impact week. In fact, it was quite a delight!
Monday we reported to the kitchen for our assignments. Two ladies headed off to a lightly used room that needed a quick cleaning, and two of us hung around the kitchen, put away dishes, worked on the kitchen laundry, and eventually we all pitched in to wash some toys!
Tuesday we were on lunch prep –
and we all enjoy that! Even the onion chopping!
Our bosses, Beverly and Esther, decided that Wednesday was a good day for the six of us to head to Black Mountain for some coffee and fun shopping. And who were we to argue???
Black Mountain is filled lots of interesting artsy-craftsy shops, and while I can’t say that any of those fun shops are going to be able to make payroll on our purchases, it was lovely to “shop” in this lovely town! It was a very special Wednesday!
Thursday it was back in the kitchen!
Chicken salad, anyone??? =)
What a fun Last Week!
Oh, the guys? Well, I know they were all kept busy the entire three weeks and managed to check off ALL the items on their job list! But since they were all working in different areas, it was hard to get pictures. Here is one photo I took this week of Gary –
Pretty sure I recognize that shoe….
Today we four couples working here at CIT set out for a Fall Festival being held at a nearby camp – Harvest Time Bible Camp – which is also a SOWER project.
It was a double delight because we not only got to see a SOWER project we hadn’t seen before, but we also got to visit with the three SOWER couples that are serving there! We enjoyed a wagon ride through the woods,
a very delicious (but undocumented)BBQ lunch (followed with way too many homemade desserts!), and lots of great conversation!
It was lovely to see this nearby camp and just as lovely to spend the afternoon with some of our SOWER family!
These North Carolina Fall weekends are working out just fine!
Thanks for stopping by,
PS – There are a couple more photos HERE if you feel so inclined!
While we ladies concentrated on housekeeping last week (getting rooms ready for students/participants who arrived over the weekend), this week we split our time between housekeeping and kitchen! It was so fun being part of the team that fed those participants (who were enjoying all those clean rooms!).
There was meat to brown
Fruit to cut and desserts to make
(Bread pudding with caramel topping – it was amazing!)
Even our dish pit queen handled the chores with joy!
We all enjoyed the change of pace (and the delicious lunch those two days)!
I’m not sure what next week will look like, but I do know that Tuesday and Thursday we’ll be back in the kitchen. And that is just fine with me!
