Another delightful “No Alarm”  month. Since Margaret (my SOWER co-worker) and I are working in the afternoons, we’ve adapted to a different schedule around here. Well, at least the ladies have!  The general SOWER schedule is to start the day with group devotions, usually at 7:30. Our work day then starts at 8. Then everyone works in the morning (with a half-hour break around 10) until noon or so. We ladies usually quit a little earlier than the men so we can go home and get lunch ready. (When Gary reads this he’ll be smiling because he pretty much makes his own lunch!). But that’s the general morning schedule. The guys go back to work from 1:30 – 3:30, and the ladies have the afternoons off.  I would say that 90% of the projects we have worked have followed that schedule more or less. But since we ladies were working in the sewing room (much to my delight), and the sewing room doesn’t open until 1 PM, we had to rearrange things.  The guys started close to 8 by meeting up with the rest of the maintenance crew and having a brief prayer time before they got busy with the day’s job list.  I was usually up in time to kiss Gary goodbye as he walked out the door, and then I would settle in for a nice quiet morning.  Coffee, Bible reading, meditation – ah, they were lovely mornings indeed! Eventually (usually after the second or third cuppa Joe) I’d get dressed for the day and crank up the computer.  I’m pretty busy these days with SOWER business (Gary & I are co-chairman for our BIG 200+ person SOWER 40th Anniversary Rally at the end of March), not to mention all the regular stuff that lands on my desk.  A bit before noon I walk up to the dining hall to meet up with Margaret and Dwayne and Gary for our devotions time (we’re reading through 100 Bible Verses that Made America: Defining Moments that Shaped our Enduring Foundations of Faith – highly recommend!), after which we join the students and staff for lunch. The guys then head back to their work and we ladies (Margaret and I) head to the Sewing Room.
We finish up our sewing projects (more on that another day)with just enough time to get home, put my feet up for a smidge, and then head back to the dining hall where they graciously serve us dinner each working day.

Yes, I have been loving this month’s schedule (and work, and people, etc.!). I do so love having the morning light wake me up instead of an alarm!

Ironically, tomorrow, our day off and generally a ‘no-alarm’ day, Gary has an 8 AM dentist appointment, so we’ll both be heading out the door by 7:15.

I’d better go and set that alarm now before I forget!

(But at least it’s Gary’s dentist appointment and not mine!)
