Drinking coffee with my sisters while watching the mist rise on the pond….now that’s the way to start the day! Vermont decided to have summer the first week of June, so instead of cool rainy days (which we are used to), we were blessed with bright sunshine and warm days. We got together with family, sorted through cabinets and cleaned up the cabin, and managed to substitute ice cream for meals more times than we should confess. Time spent laughing, crying, praying, studying the Word, reading and sleeping, (plus a healthy dose of speed scrabble) – Yes, it was a grand Girls’ Week 2005! Here is a picture from our visit with our Aunt Berta – my mom’s sister. (That’s my cousin Catherine with Aunt Berta) And we also enjoyed a dinner out with my brother Dewey, wife Sharon and daughter Sydney…. Sharon – Elna- me -Joie – Dewey – Sydney
We’ve been home for a week now – and are all comfy in the driveway. I’ve spent time gardening, sorting through stuff (mostly in the RV) and connecting with friends. It’s been a busy, but good week! Tomorrow I head to Vermont and my beloved Cabin to spend a week with my (more beloved) sisters! It seems odd to say I’m leaving on a vacation tomorrow when one would think I’ve been vacationing for the last 10 months, but this definitely has a different “feel” to it. It will be quite a change from the 24-7 togetherness that Gary and I have been enjoying, but at the same time it will probably be a nice break for both of us (although I do think I get the better end of the deal!). Today I did something that I have never done before. I gave Josiah a haircut!!!! He’s been growing his beard for a Youth Group fund raiser, and his hair has been growing along with it. Here’s a “before” picture:
And here’s the after shot – the beard is still there, and I figure in a couple of weeks he can go to a real barber and get the damage repaired………. Guess I’d better keep my day job, huh? (Oh, that right, I don’t HAVE a day job! oops!)
Well, since Lizzie is our home, we’re actually always ‘home’, but right now we are actually parked in the driveway of our “staying put” home (the one we’re trying to sell!). Our project at Summit Grove wrapped up last Thursday, and after a very fun day in Baltimore with our friends from that project, we headed to Jamison. We’ll be here until the end of June when we head to Michigan (near Traverse City) for a project in July. There are lots of chores to get done here at the homestead – there’s been some interest in the house, but nothing has been finalized, so we’ll be working on the lawn and gardens, along with some final disposition of the contents (yes, one more yard sale is in my future!). We’ll be enjoying a couple of weddings, taking care of some banking-type stuff, touching base with lots of friends and generally wrapping up loose ends ’cause this time when we leave, we REALLY ARE HEADING WEST!!!! So, if you don’t see many posts for awhile, it’s just ’cause we’re doing some pretty regular “stuff”. But if it gets exciting, I’ll be sure to let you know!!! Here’s the group shot from our Summit Grove project. We worked very hard – but we played hard too! It was a memorable month – and we’ve made some forever friends!
I certainly don’t know how it got to be MAY 10th already!!! We’ve been having a great time here in New Freedom, PA. As I suspected, we ladies are tackling the dining hall at the Campground – getting the kitchen all cleaned and the dining hall ready for the summer. It’s a pretty big job – and I think we are cleaning up some pretty old dirt. We thank God every day for rubber gloves! The guys have done some pool maintenance, picnic table building and general building and mechanical maintenance. We’ve been having a great time of fellowship – a couple of game nights, a campfire, learning how to play Cornhole (yes, that’s a real game), and generally laughing a whole lot!!! It’s amazing how the most mundane jobs become do-able and (almost) enjoyable when you’re doing them with friends! We went “home†last weekend and had a great time! Got some gardening done at the house (still on the market – keep praying!), enjoyed time with my quilting buddies at the Plumstead Christian School Spring Fair and Auction, and was blessed by worshiping at our home church in Doylestown. All three kids called on Mother’s Day which was an added bonus to an already delightful weekend. Tomorrow night we head to a BYOB(anana) night at the local Ice Cream Parlor (Bonky’s?). Geez, we’re havin’ fun!
Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s May already! And it’s even harder to believe that we’ve been on the road nine (yes that’s 9!) months. I’ll have to spend some time reflecting on all of the wonderful people we’ve met, the exciting adventures we’ve had, and the amazing blessings we received during those months. Right now I just want to let folks know that we’ve “landed†for the next three weeks at Summit Grove Camp in New Freedom, PA. It’s right off of I83, just about 18 miles south of York and about 2 miles north of the MD border. We don’t have our official “job†list, but I imagine that we’ll be doing pretty standard “get the place ready for camp†kind of stuff – doing minor repairs, cleaning up winter’s mess, and generally opening up areas for use. There are three other couples with us, and already we have been having great fellowship. We are anticipating another great month doing this Sower’s project – and will keep you all posted!
