Celebrating the Day that Changed Everything!

The day you become a parent for the first time (well, for every time actually, right?) will always be remembered. And it is not different when you become a grandparent. We’ve been incredibly blessed to welcome twelve grandchildren into our family, but today we are celebrating the one that started it off! The one who taught us all of the ins and outs of how to become Grams and Pops. And today this little smiling imp

turns twenty-two!

Ellie is in her last semester of college, doing her student teaching in Art Education. She’s all the things – kind, compassionate, smart and quite beautiful! She’s hard worker and a great big sister – and we love her to the moon and back!
Happy Birthday, Ellie! You’ve done a great job of leading the way!

Fast Forward Ten Years

And I mean it! Those ten years went forward FAST!
Ten years ago I posted the following:

For many of you the primary emphasis of today is

THE SUPER BOWL.

OK, that’s happening here in our house too, but the most exciting news about today is that our first born grandchild, Eliana Grace, turns 10 today.  10.

I’m not sure just where those 10 years have gone, but we’ve been blessed to watch her grow into a beautiful young lady. She’s a big help to her Mom and Dad, and a great big sister to her three younger siblings. And most importantly, she loves Jesus and has asked Him into her heart!

Happy Birthday, sweet Ellie! Hugs and kisses from Grams and Pops!

Fast forward those ten years…
Today we are NOT thinking about the Super Bowl (but now that you mentioned it – Fly Eagles, Fly!), but we are celebrating Ellie turning twenty! As hard as it is for us to believe (and even harder for her folks, I imagine), this sweet thing who ushered us into being grandparents, is beginning her third decade!

Happy Birthday, Ellie! That’s pretty much how we feel about it too! We love you to the moon and back, dear one!

Sabbath Rest – Faith to be Strong

EllieCropIn less than a week there will be an official High School Graduate in the family. Truly. She’s smart and beautiful and creative and kind and funny. And while her nest-leaving won’t be for a while yet (she’s heading off to Kent State in the fall), already our prayers are intensified as she stretches her wings and embarks on her next great adventure. The world is kinda crazy out there these days (did our parents say the same thing?), so I dedicate this song to you! May the Father always give you the Faith to be Strong!

Faith to be Strong
by Andrew Peterson

Give us faith to be strong
Father, we are so weak
Our bodies are fragile and weary
As we stagger and stumble to walk where you lead
Give us faith to be strong

Give us faith to be strong
Give us strength to be faithful
This life is not long, but it’s hard
Give us grace to go on
Make us willing and able
Lord, give us faith to be strong

Give us peace when we’re torn
Mend us up when we break
This flesh can be wounded and shaking
When there’s much too much trouble for one heart to take
Give us peace when we’re torn

Give us faith to be strong
Give us strength to be faithful
This life is not long, but it’s hard
Give us grace to go on
Make us willing and able
Lord, give us faith to be strong

Give us hearts to find hope
Father, we cannot see
How the sorrow we feel can bring freedom
And as hard as we try, Lord, it’s hard to believe
So, give us hearts to find hope

Give us faith to be strong
Give us strength to be faithful
This life is not long, but it’s hard
Give us grace to go on
Make us willing and able
Lord, give us faith to be strong
Give us peace when we’re torn
Give us faith, faith to be strong
