Sabbath Rest – Psalm 84 – I’m Home

Today we arrived in Lindale, Texas, and introduced Lizzie, our home for the last 20 years to our stationary home for the next (God truly only knows) years. As Gary and I navigate this new dynamic (slowing down with SOWER-ing and being part of a community for longer than three weeks), I am so thankful that regardless of wherever my physical home is, my true home is found in the Lord. This musical rendition of Psalm 84 speaks to that joyful security!

When I sit at Your table
I am right where I belong
In the doorway of my Father’s house
I’m home

How lovely are Your dwelling places
Your Holy Spirit here in us
Oh how I love to sing Your praises
One day with You would be enough

When I bow down before You
I am richer than all kings
When I stand in Your presence
I am free
When I sit at Your table
I am right where I belong
In the doorway of my Father’s house
I’m home

If all this world was for the taking
And every treasure known was mine
Not one of them would ever sway me
I’d choose my Savior every time

Wherever I go
I’m home
Because You’re here
In my soul
You’re an oasis in the desert
Living water overflow

One week in

Phew, it’s been quite the week! We’ve been busy with our SOWER work here at the office
Untitled
along with continuing the “settling in” process of home ownership! Thank you to all of you who commented either here or on Facebook about this step (however tentative it might be) into our new adventure! And thank you also for sharing in our joy of a new little one arriving at the end of the month! We’re looking forward to meeting our little “tiebreaker”!
But tonight I wanted to share about the sweet visit we had last weekend with our Texas kids (one of the reasons that this whole House-in-Texas thing is happening!). It was short – barely more than 24 hours – but we packed it with lots of love and snuggles! There was a birthday to celebrate (with pizza, not cake!)

How did this baby of mine get to be 43? And the Daddy to four precious little boys?
Untitled
We met the day-old piglets
Untitled
and joined in a little Easter egg hunt watching!
Untitled
And I also got to deliver the latest bed quilt – made with love and prayers, especially for Anderson!
Untitled
(When I started with this particular quilt tradition it was “When they move into a Big Bed”. Now it’s hopefully before they turn seven! Those grands were coming fast and furious for a while!)
As we said our goodbyes after the egg hunt, we made plans for them to come to OUR HOUSE before we head back east towards the end of April. And believe me, it’s been a very, very long time since I’ve been able to extend that invitation!
It felt pretty good!

Thanks again for all your encouraging comments – I really do love hearing from y’all.  Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed Lord’s Day!

Back Home

It’s always hard to leave The Cabin and this morning was no exception.
Untitled
As we loaded up the car and did one final sweep to leave it spic and span for the next family (arriving tomorrow!), I couldn’t resist one last picture of the interior of our little slice of heaven.

(Taken on the wide angle setting of my iPhone so it looks much larger than it actually is!)
Man – I miss it already!

But back to real life it was! We arrived safely home this afternoon, after a lovely non-eventful drive. The best kind! Aside from the smoke drifting down from Canada and the fact that we couldn’t get into the Vermont Welcome Center due to road construction (and I REALLY needed to stop, if you get my drift!),it was smooth sailing all the way. Tonight, after going out for pizza with friends, it was last-minute laundry and packing up the outside as we get ready to move the house tomorrow to our July SOWER project at Longview Camp in Arcade, NY. I should probably tackle more of the inside, but even an uneventful drive can still wear you out!
Sweet dreams, friends!

One last One last thing

Last night as I was making my last midnight trip to the outhouse, a large bird swooped through the yard right in front of me! To my amazement, it perched on the truck’s mirror!
Untitled
Happy I had my phone with me (for the flashlight – it’s dark out there!), I figured I could at least video him/her flying away.
Owl!!
Oh my, it stopped on the bench!
Untitled
Hello, Mr. Barred Owl!! We’ve heard you in the nearby woods (Whoooo cooks for yooouuuu), but never expected you to stop by for a visit!
This beautiful bird hung around for almost 5 minutes – what a treat!
Untitled
You can see by my shadow that he let me get pretty close.
Untitled
What an unexpected treat to have this midnight visitor – and to have him pause in his nighttime travels in our yard!

Morning came all too soon. We got packed up and out the door a little after 9.
Untitled
It’s always hard to leave the cabin – even after a lovely extended stay like we enjoyed. But I will admit that leaving on a drizzly morning makes it just a little less painful!

We made it back to the rig by late afternoon, and while the car is officially empty it may be a couple of days before we’re actually unpacked. So.Much.Stuff!

But it IS good to be home and we looking forward to a good (though already looking pretty busy) month working with friends that we haven’t seen in a long time! Let the SOWER work fun begin!

Home again, home again, Jiggity jig

Ah…..Home.

Although driving through Atlanta last Saturday morning at 4:40 AM was a good plan
Untitled
there was no such option on the way home. Thankfully, though the traffic was steady, and sometimes slow, it never caused too much of a delay
Untitled
and we were home from our 6 day, 4 motel, 1600+ mile sling-shot trip to Texas in daylight.
We’ve dragged in most of our travel debris (ugh – unpacking!), left non-critical items in the truck to be dealt with tomorrow, and had some junk food for dinner.
Tomorrow we’re off again to our April project, so the only thing on this girl’s agenda is her own bed and her own coffee in the morning!
Hope you’re snug as a bug in a rug wherever you are laying your head tonight!
A very tired…..
