Saving the Date

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, lots of folks are thinking about ‘dates’. And of course there is also the traditional “Save the Date” notices that announce an impending wedding or other celebration party. Those are both important dates. But I’m talking about a different kind of date. I’m talking about a date with your adult children!
Last week I had a date with my sweet daughter-in-love that I cherished! (Both the date and the DIL!) We met up to do some fabric shopping for a quilt for her youngest, and spent the morning deciding on color schemes and drinking fancy coffee! It was great!
Then we picked-up sandwiches and had lunch with Josiah (her husband and my son!) before with we finished the visit with some time at the house with the boys!  Technically  it  was  a quick  visit,  and  while  I certainly  enjoyed  the  time I had  with  the  boys,   I  truly treasured  the  time I spent with Abigail and Josiah.
We both love spending time with our grandchildren. Love,  love, love it!  But sometimes I miss those quiet conversations with our grown children. So on the rare occasions that we get to ride with them to the local home improvement store, or join them for a  quick trip to the post office or meet up at a fabric store – those are dear and precious visits.
I don’t recall that Abigail and I talked about any deep and important issues. And I know I didn’t take any pictures! But our short date last week was oh-so-very-special indeed!
As a bonus – I also learned that I can do the Waco trip – there and back – in a day without too much stress! Oh, and I also came home with some beautiful fabrics!

So thankful for visits with kids

…and long driveways!
We had a great visit with our Waco kids last month! We were there for almost a week before we took off with Weston for his Galveston Adventure, and we managed to be productive even while we were playing with the kids! Ok, ok. Gary was mostly the productive one and I was mostly the playing with the kids one – but it all worked out in the end! I did help out with finishing up some painting, but mostly I was hanging out with these crazy guys!

Gary’s project was screening in the back porch.

He’d already begun framing it out in this picture, and by the time we left for Galveston he had it all framed and ready for the actual screening.

But even though he was pretty busy with that porch project,  we still managed to fit in some local fun! Like indulging in some of our favorite Waco food!
Shorty’s Pizza – love their Pizza pillows!

and of course In -N-Out! Mmmmm….cheeseburger animal style!

We even managed a quick drive-by of our little Waco house – we still miss that house somedays!

But aside ‘Walking down Waco Memory Lane’, we mostly spent time with the kids. We played some games,

and even had some puppy time!

After our Galveston week, Gary finished up the screening lickety-split!

We left the trim for Josiah to finish up, and before we knew it, it was time to hit the road!

We might not get back this way until next year this time, so we’re so very thankful that we got to spend this with our Texas family!
