I went to church in my jammies today. We took seriously the warnings to those of us over 65 to stay home, and so we streamed a powerful service from McLean Bible Church in Washington, DC. Like so many places of worship around the country (world, really) the worship team was praising the LORD before an empty auditorium, but we still were drawn into the feeling of corporate worship. David Platt, the pastor, started his sermon by encouraging those who were able to step out and serve those who will be staying home (and hopefully safe) in the days and weeks ahead. I’m sure that in churches all across this country the main point of the sermon was Stay Calm, Wash your Hands, but most importantly, Trust God. David spoke of those things as well. I would recommend his sermon (found HERE) if you have time. It was excellent.
The service finished with the beautiful hymn, It is Well with my Soul. As I was searching for an arrangement of that hymn I came across this ‘variation on a theme’ of that classic. It’s different, to be sure, but it still affirms the same truth- Through it all, my eyes are on you and it is well with my soul.
