Waco Days

There are lots of things to love about our time outside of Waco earlier last month, when we spent a bit over a week with our youngest son and his beautiful family! Here are just a few of them –

We got to park in their driveway!! We had good power (no official hook-up just yet, but we had a more than adequate temporary hook-up), the slides were out, and almost every morning there was a little knock at our door by a couple of fair headed little boys wanting to come into the RV! Now in my book, our home is very utilitarian and there is not much for little ones to do. But that didn’t seem to matter. From the swivel chairs to the road atlas to the grapefruit spoons in the silverware drawer, there seemed to be no end of adventures in Lizzie.

We loved having them stop by each morning!

We got to teach them a new game – Pegs and Jokers (very similar to SORRY). It combined cards and fun ‘pegs’ and a bit of strategy, and many a game was played during our visit.

We left it with them and I hope they continue to enjoy it!

We (ok, it was mostly Gary) got to work on a couple of projects. Can you guess what he’s building?
Untitled
Yep, a loft bed!

Weston was pretty stoked about that!
And then there was some outdoor work –

Helping out with some new fencing. Nothing fancy, just enough to keep the dogs home and the chickens (yes, there are chicks on order!) in the yard!
Of course, there was the Christmas Trampoline –

Now that was a fun project, and even more fun watching the kids get acquainted with this new backyard delight!

But regardless of the games that were played and the projects that were accomplished, the best part of our Waco Days was being able to spend time with these guys!

It was exciting to see them settling into their new (to them) home outside of Waco, and to hear them share their plans for the days to come! It was hard to say good-bye, but there’s a pretty good chance they’ll come to see us here at Lake Lavon since we’re not all that far away (in the overall scheme of things!).

Yes, our Waco Days are filled with wonderful memories!

Last day of school

So what do you do when it’s the last day of school even though it feels pretty much like every other day has felt for the last two plus months? You hit up Mr. Snow for some celebratory ice cream!

Welcome to kindergarten and fourth grade!

Then when you get home, you get to enjoy another beautiful Texas sunset as you keep an eye on the the puppy while Mom and Dad have the joy of getting 3 little ice cream stuffed boys into jammies and bed.

Until the mosquitoes get the better of you!

Sweet dreams everyone!

The house is quiet

which in a household of four little boys is no mean feat! The boys are settled in for the night, Josiah and the other grandma (aka Meemaw) are making a quick trip to the old house, and Abigail is enjoying a peaceful glass of wine and a lovely sunset with a friend on their bedroom deck!

My first full day back in Texas has been a busy delight as I’ve worked on cleaning and organizing the kitchen and playing with some adorable grand boys!

I had a lovely welcome at the Waco airport complete with a big GRAMS sign, flowers and three big boys rushing to give hugs! (There were only 8 of us on the flight from Dallas, so I was pretty easy to spot!)
Once we got to the new house

they had another surprise –

A new puppy!
Crazy, right??
Their other dog, Libby, at age ten isn’t to sure about this little slip of a thing!

However, that little ball of fur is a Great Pyrenees, so it won’t be too long until she’ll be a better playmate!
Although all the critical stuff has been moved (beds, sofa, kitchen table and the washer and dryer, the rest of the ‘stuff’ will be happening in stages. Which mostly means that new boxes will need to be unpacked every day!
It’s been great getting reacquainted with the boys – especially the two littlest! I hadn’t seen little Deacon(7mo) since he was 4 days old!

Yes, my heart is happy!

Stay well and keep washing those hands! It’s always been our best defense!
