Birthdays

This past weekend was full of family birthdays. Our dear Maddie turned 18 on Saturday- and we’re still trying to figure out where all of those years have gone!

She’s a senior this year – and I know God has great things in store for this young, beautiful Jesus-lover!

And then on Sunday, THIS senior turned 74.

As birthdays go, it was a pretty quiet day since we were driving to Louisiana to help out at a favorite ministry for a couple of weeks. But through the modern miracle of cell phones and Facebook, I had so many lovely birthday greetings that even without a piece of cake, it was still a pretty fine day!
And then providentially this morning a friend shared this video.

Whether you’re wrapping up your second decade like Maddie, or almost halfway through your eighth, these lyrics still ring true –
Joy still comes in the morning
Hope still walks with the hurting
If you’re still alive and breathing
Praise the Lord
Don’t stop dancing and dreaming
There’s still good news worth repeating
So lift your head and keep singing
Praise the Lord

Amen!
Thanks for stopping by,
Steph

Vote for Maddie!

OK, that’s a bit of a mash-up. So first – VOTE!! It’s a privilege we should never take for granted!

But also happening today, is the birthday of our dear Madelyn!  This is a slightly updated post from last year, but I think it summed things up rather nicely!

Happy 15th Birthday, Maddie!

I remember when this little one was born – missing my birthday by just a day!
Smiling Maddie
I remember when we realized that, unlike her big sisters, she would be blond and blue-eyed!

I remember when we took her camping when she was three
Maddie saying goodnight
and I remember when she had her “Grams and Pops Adventure” when she was ten.

Can you see me?
What I can’t quite remember, though, is when that sweet, little munchkin turned into the loving, kind, smart (and pretty darn beautiful!) fourteen-year-old that she is today.
Maddie at 14
Guess I can’t remember, because there was no starting place for that – it just always was (well, except for the 14 part!)!  Happy Birthday, Maddie! You stole our hearts on Day One – and have held them ever since! XOXOXO

And now you’re 15! Our hearts are still yours!
Love,

It’s easy today

to find something to be thankful for!! On this day, eleven years ago we welcomed this sweet little blue-eyed beauty into our family!

(full disclosure, she did not arrive looking quite like this! =) )
She’s filled our lives with smiles and snuggles, laughter and love! I feel a special affinity with Maddie since she’s the classic ‘middle child’ (kinda like me), celebrates her birthday just one day before mine, and is the lone blonde haired, blue-eyed child in her family (which she definitely got from her Daddy’s (our son) side of the family!)

We got to spoil her for a week this past summer, so her sweetness is still fresh in our minds!
Happy Birthday, Maddie in the Middle! We love you to the moon and back!
