Sabbath Rest – Always Good

As we’ve been walking down this “oh, you might have some heart trouble” road, this song by Andrew Peterson came to mind. It was written following the tragic death of a dear friend’s wife shortly after she gave birth to their first child.  Our circumstances seem so very minor in comparison, yet still these lyrics are true –

You’re always good, always good
Somehow this sorrow is shaping my heart
Like it should
And You’re always good, always good

Do You remember how Mary was grieving?
How You wept and she fell at Your feet?
If it’s true that You know what I’m feeling
Could it be that You’re weeping with me?

Arise, O Lord, and save me
There’s nowhere else to go

You’re always good, always good
Somehow this sorrow is shaping my heart
Like it should
And You’re always good, always good

It’s so hard to know what You’re doing
So why won’t You tell it all plain?
But You said You’d come back on the third day
And Peter missed it again and again

So maybe the answer surrounds us
And we don’t have eyes to see

You’re always good, always good
This heartache is moving me closer than joy ever could
And You’re always good

My God, my God, be near me
There’s nowhere else to go
And Lord, if You can hear me
Please help Your child to know

That You’re always good, always good
As we try to believe what is not meant
To be understood
Will You help us to trust Your intentions for us are still good?
‘Cause You laid down Your life and You suffered like I never could

And You’re always good, always good
You’re always good, always good

Sabbath Rest – He Is Worthy

I have been an Andrew Peterson fan close to twenty years. I’ve been blessed to see him in concert several times (including his Behold the Lamb Christmas concert – EXCELLENT). This is one of his newest songs – and it is stirs my soul.  The video is beautiful – and the lyrics are so rich with truth. May your heart be blessed today as you meditate on our Worthy God –

Sabbath Rest – Grace Alone

One of the best parts of the Montrose Christian Writers Conference I attended last week was the way each morning began with a time of reflection and worship. Always a beautiful start to the day. This is just one of the hymns that spoke to my heart –

Grace Alone

Every promise we can make
Every prayer and step of faith
Every difference we can make
Is only by His grace.

Every mountain we will climb
Every ray of hope we shine
Every blessing left behind
Is only by His grace

Grace alone Which God supplies
Strength unknown He will provide
Christ in us, our cornerstone
We will go forth in grace alone.

Every soul we long to reach
Every heart we hope to teach
Everywhere we share His peace
Is only by His grace.

Every loving word we say
Every tear we wipe away
Every sorrow turned to praise
Is only by His grace.

Sabbath Rest –

How very thankful I am that my Hope is not found in presidents and governments, family and friends or even how I am feeling on any particular day. My Hope is built on nothing less – than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. Amen.

My Hope is build on Nothing less

My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain:

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]

His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]

When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found,
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]

Sabbath Rest – Who Am I?

While more of a Praise & Worship song than a hymn perhaps, the following song, written in 2003 by Casting Crowns, is a beautiful reflection on Psalm 8:3-4-

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

Who Am I

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt?

Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart?

Not because of who I am
But because of what You’ve done.
Not because of what I’ve done
But because of who You are.

CHORUS:
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow.
A wave tossed in the ocean.
A vapor in the wind.

Still You hear me when I’m calling.
Lord, You catch me when I’m falling.
And You’ve told me who I am.
I am Yours, I am Yours.

Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love and watch me rise again?

Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea
Would call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me?

Not because of who I am
But because of what You’ve done.
Not because of what I’ve done
But because of who You are.

CHORUS

Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?

‘Cause I am Yours, I am Yours.
