Today I am thankful for

YOU!
I’ve been keeping this blog going for over 14 years now, and one of the main reasons I keep at it is because I know that somewhere ‘out there’ someone will be checking to see if I’ve written anything lately! I’ve occasionally expressed some angst about this blog, since in many ways it’s not a very defined blog. When people ask what I blog about I confess that it’s a little bit of travelogue mixed in with some ministry stories combined with reflections on life with some (very) cute grandchildren thrown in every now and again. All hopefully seen through eyes of Faith. I guess I would just say it’s a Life Blog?
Blogging
You’re a mixed bag of friends, you know. Some of you I know well and some of you I have never met. Yet we’ve managed to connect through this interesting medium called Blogging. I love it when you comment and ask questions. I love it when I know dear friends are reading and keeping up with our travels and ministry and cute grandkiddos. And I love it when new friends introduce themselves and join in the conversation.

So on this twentieth day of November, I’d just like to say a simple, but heartfelt, Thank You to all of you have come by visit my little corner of the internet. Whether this is your first visit or you’ve been following along since we started out those many years ago, you are deeply appreciated and valued.
Praying you all have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Little Voices

Two of our SOWER couples are pulling out tomorrow and heading home,  so we had a lovely end-of-project luncheon today. After we had eaten we went around the table and each of us shared something we were thankful for.

Family and the Oakridge community were high on the list of thanksgiving. I am indeed thankful for those things. But my thankfulness this day was headed in a slightly smaller direction.
While Lana and I were busy putting up Christmas decorations,

three little ones were busy playing in the background.

Listening to those little cousins playing and giggling and yes, sometimes even squabbling, did this Gramma’s heart good!

Today I am thankful for leftovers

After a super busy (and let’s face it, super fun!) weekend, we started the week with a little weather surprise.

Snow or no snow, we still had plenty to do. Two of us ladies were working on changing out the decorations in the dining hall.

(True confession – this is a great way to finish off this project!)
Then we four SOWER ladies hosted a Tea Party for the ladies on staff at Oakridge.

Of course, young Julia came too!

Then after all the fun was done (and the dishes too!), we hung around with Natalie (not only part of the host family, but also a professional photographer) for a “photo shoot”.

At any rate, by the time I got home I was beat. It was a good beat, but beat nonetheless! How beautiful it was that there, waiting in the refrigerator, were leftovers from the weekend!!!

So much to be thankful for today, but the first thing that came to mind as I started this post were those yummy (and now gone) leftovers!! (And of course, the birthday bounty that produced those leftovers!)

On this fourth day of November…

I’d like to say I’m thankful for this guy –
Fitz
He married my sister almost 50 years ago, and today is his birthday! He’s been a teacher and a pastor, has parented five children and is now Pap-Pap to 19 (!) grandchildren. I’m so thankful for his rock solid faith, his strong love for my sister and his family, and his devotion to Penn State football. (OK, the Penn State obsession is not quite so important, but it certainly is part of Who He Is!). And I’m also thankful that his birthday is in November, since I’m trying to do a thankful post every day and this was an easy one to do!

Happy Birthday, Fitz!
