Family Visit

Imagine our delight when our Waco kids came for a visit this past Sunday! Especially given that Waco isn’t exactly around the corner from Camp Lavon and good ol’ Dallas is smack dab in the middle of the route. But they were willing – and we were happy to have them come.   To simplify lunch (feeding 8 folks in our RV was not high on my “fun things to do” list) we met a nearby restaurant to start our visit.

[Do you suppose it’s a proven fact that it’s impossible to get four little men to smile at the camera at the same time? I think Weston (front right) was working on his “how weird can I look” face, while Taran across the table was just over it. Man, I love those little boys!]
Although we’ve had some lovely cool-ish (for Texas anyway) days recently, Sunday climbed well into the 90’s so for much of the day we just hung around in the RV. It was a little crowded, but we set the boys up with the dominoes on the tile floor, and they kept pretty busy building towers or seeing how many they could line up to knock down! Every now and then one would wander up front and I caught this shot of little Anderson with the sun hitting him just  right!

Eventually, though, we braved the heat and went for a little walk around the conference center. We checked out the lake front

and then ended up at the camp’s swimming hole where one of the camp families (also with 4 young’uns) was playing in the water. The boys couldn’t resist, and although there were no pictures taken, joining them for a bit of splash time was the perfect end to a hot walk. Once everyone was back in dry clothes, they loaded the van and headed back to Waco (with a quick stop at the DWF airport to pick up a friend – didn’t that work out well!). I snapped one last shot of this little guy –

who turns ONE tomorrow!! As the saying goes – #dontblink!

We don’t get many family visits when we’re on a SOWER project, so Sunday afternoon was a very precious time indeed!  Thanks for coming along for the visit!

Waco Days

There are lots of things to love about our time outside of Waco earlier last month, when we spent a bit over a week with our youngest son and his beautiful family! Here are just a few of them –
Untitled
We got to park in their driveway!! We had good power (no official hook-up just yet, but we had a more than adequate temporary hook-up), the slides were out, and almost every morning there was a little knock at our door by a couple of fair headed little boys wanting to come into the RV! Now in my book, our home is very utilitarian and there is not much for little ones to do. But that didn’t seem to matter. From the swivel chairs to the road atlas to the grapefruit spoons in the silverware drawer, there seemed to be no end of adventures in Lizzie.

We loved having them stop by each morning!

Untitled
We got to teach them a new game – Pegs and Jokers (very similar to SORRY). It combined cards and fun ‘pegs’ and a bit of strategy, and many a game was played during our visit.

We left it with them and I hope they continue to enjoy it!

Untitled
We (ok, it was mostly Gary) got to work on a couple of projects. Can you guess what he’s building?
Untitled
Yep, a loft bed!
Untitled
Weston was pretty stoked about that!
And then there was some outdoor work –
Untitled
Helping out with some new fencing. Nothing fancy, just enough to keep the dogs home and the chickens (yes, there are chicks on order!) in the yard!
Of course, there was the Christmas Trampoline –

Now that was a fun project, and even more fun watching the kids get acquainted with this new backyard delight!

But regardless of the games that were played and the projects that were accomplished, the best part of our Waco Days was being able to spend time with these guys!
Untitled
It was exciting to see them settling into their new (to them) home outside of Waco, and to hear them share their plans for the days to come! It was hard to say good-bye, but there’s a pretty good chance they’ll come to see us here at Lake Lavon since we’re not all that far away (in the overall scheme of things!).

Yes, our Waco Days are filled with wonderful memories!

Sometimes the day

…just doesn’t go as planned.

We shared hugs all around, and set out right on schedule from Josiah’s house this morning.

We were first in line at then inspection station
Untitled
and we passed with flying colors. (To my Pennsylvania friends – the inspections here in TX consist of making sure the lights work, the brakes work, the wipers work, the horn works and you have current insurance. Total cost – $7.00. Quite a difference from the PA inspection system!) But I digress…
We stopped at a diesel repair shop to have some ‘codes read’ to help figure out an intermittent sputtering/missing problem we noticed on our way to Waco. And that’s about when our ‘best laid plans’ took a detour. It turned out they couldn’t actually do the diagnosis until after lunch so we decided to make the most of the morning and took care of a chore – doing the laundry! Then we enjoyed lunch at a favorite lunch spot (from when we were doing the Parrott Ave renovations last year). Once we got back to the rig, they were getting ready to do the diagnostic. But first I had to empty out the closet (Oh, the joys of have a diesel ‘pusher’). No pictures of that – it’s too embarrassing!

The tech spent a lot of time checking things, but in the end everything looked fine. He loaded us up with a new computer program for the engine, took the girl for a nice long test drive and everything checked out. Of course, by that time, it was closing in on 5PM so they told us to come back tomorrow to ‘settle up’. (Gotta love Texas!) We found a nice pull-through RV spot at a local campground on Lake Waco, and tucked in for the night. Hopefully, after we stop back at the garage to pay our bill, we’ll soon be on our way! Again.
It certainly wasn’t the day we planned, but it started with hugs, included clean clothes, a good check-up at the diesel doctor, some yummy food and ended with a lovely sunset.

We really can’t ask for more than that! Thanks for coming along for the (non) trip!

Full arms, Full hearts

This past weekend we took a quick trip to Waco to greet our newest grandson, and love on the rest of our Waco clan!
Untitled
It was a super sweet couple of days, where we snuggled with the littles and hung out with the not so littles!
Untitled
It was a laid back couple of days
Untitled
and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with the kiddos. Little Deacon spent Saturday night back in the hospital, enjoying a ‘spa day’ under the lights (the dreaded bilirubin count was getting higher instead of lower), but by morning his ‘numbers’ were back in the right range, and he was home Sunday afternoon.  God is good!

We did have a opportunity to see some friends, make sure a couple of our favorite Waco eateries were still delicious, and even stopped at the Parrott Ave house and greet the new owners. (Yikes, I know that was risky, but we had a gate opener that we wanted to return so it seemed like a legitimate reason to stop. They were delighted to officially meet us, and remain totally thrilled with the house. I confess it did our hearts good to know that all was well!)

We left Waco knowing we wouldn’t see these darling kids until next summer, but oh so very thankful for Facetime and Skype and any of the other miracles of technology that allow us to watch ALL these babies grow!

Today we had another addition to the family! This very day we welcomed this sweet ride into our family-

Not as exciting as that little Deacon, but still a pretty big deal in our world!
Thanks for joining in our JOY!
