One week into the adventure!

And it’s been grand!
While our first official destination was Columbus, OH, and visits with our kids, we did make a quick stop along the way. We were able to connect with some sweet SOWER friends who live outside of Cincinnati! It was a quick stop, but one that did my heart good! Of course, I failed to get a photo of us together, so we each took selfies and shared them!

Not quite as fun as a together shot – but it will serve the purpose for our memories! We love being able to connect with our SOWER family on our travels!
The timing for our Ohio visit was to be able to celebrate our oldest granddaughter’s college graduation!

Prior to graduation day, we were able to spend time with both of our Ohio families, which included (but was not limited to) –
New hair designs,

dog walking,

(not sure who’s walking who here!)
baby almost walking,

a little Bluegrass

and lots of good family time!

With a shortage of available tickets, we didn’t get to watch Ellie graduate “live,” but being able to view it on TV in the comfort of her apartment

worked just fine for us. (Naps may or may not have happened during the commencement speeches. We were so cozy!)
It was a good visit all around! We’ll be heading back that way for more family fun at the end of the month, but right now we’re enjoying some very precious Cabin time!

We so love this place in May!

More Cabin Talk in days to come..
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

February Eleventh

Did you know  February 11th  is National Make A Friend Day? Here is what the Internet tells me about this celebration –

NATIONAL MAKE A FRIEND DAY

Always observed on February 11th, National Make A Friend Day is a fantastic opportunity to meet someone new and make a new friendship. Friends serve a vital role in everyone’s lives. They are one of life’s most valuable assets.

#NationalMakeAFriendDay

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light”  – Helen Keller

New friends can broaden our horizons by helping us to see new perspectives, challenging us to try something different, or connecting us to opportunities. Meeting new people can help sharpen our social skills and keep us from becoming lonely.

I’m happy to report that since we are in a new (to us) neighborhood – and have been here for three plus months (as opposed to three plus weeks)  we’ve been celebrating “Make a Friend Day” quite frequently.  While we already knew several couples that live here (there are about 60 dwellings), it’s been a delight to get to know (or get to know better) so many good folk! Gary often joins the ‘guys’ for coffee in the afternoon where they solve the problems of the world (or at least discuss the best place for Texas BBQ), and I’ve enjoyed the weekly Bible Study group and have even found some lovely walking buddies!

So while today may be the National Make A Friend Day, it’s more than that for us. We are full-steam ahead in Make A Friend Season! And it’s been grand!

Thank you, friends, for stopping by!

Week One Done – again!

Why is it these weeks go by so fast??
After a slow start on Monday morning (which often happens as everyone figures out where things are and who’s good at what and just when things need to happen) here at FL Sheriffs Boys Ranch, the week picked right up! Most of our team (6 of the 8 of us) are working at one of the cottages. They’ve had a reduction of residents due to COVID and the cottage was empty, so it seemed like a good time to do a little rehab and refurb!

and everyone worked as a team to get ‘er done!

Since I’m not working in that area, I’m sure exactly how far along they are, but I do know they’ll be busy well into next week!
Beth and I (the other two team members) have been working in the kitchen, helping to feed the kids that live here!
Untitled
We’ve cut up chicken, peeled eggs, prepped cabbage for coleslaw, cut up fresh fruit for the lunch bar and (the best part) helped in the serving line. (There’s nothing like feeding kids in my book!)
Because Beth and I are working slightly different hours, we’ve been walking from the RV parking area to the dining hall – a nice 30 minute walk.

And then after lunch (after we feed the boys and staff, then they feed us! Sweet!) the four of us girls walk back to the Rv’s!
Untitled
To summarize – the work has been good, the weather has been cool but (mostly) sunny AND I’m even getting some great exercise!
Oh – and we’ve even enjoyed a fun evening of games!

Yep, it was a good first week all around!
