I was wrong

Yesterday I said that the treehouse would be ‘under roof by the end of the day tomorrow”!
I was wrong.
It was “under roof” before 8:30.

Yep, while I was still enjoying my avocado toast and coffee in front of the fire,
Untitled
he was busy doing roofing things!

If my internet was just a little bit faster (but, hey – I’m at the Cabin and I have SOME internet!), I could show you more pictures of how he got the front wall sheathed and the door and window cut out. I would show you how Christiana and I were busy painting trim boards so he can maybe get that front window installed tomorrow. And then I would also show you how we supported the local economy by joining in the opening day of (one of the) local ice cream shops.
Ice cream for dinner. What happens at The Cabin, stays at the Cabin.

Made it to Lowes!

Today was the day we finally did our “Lowes Run”. Now you might not think that going to Lowes is such a big deal, but for us, a trip to Lowes is an excursion! The hour-long drive begins here,

upgrades to a good dirt road

and finally paved!

We go through several small New England towns

(with their 30 MPH speed limits),
cross the Connecticut River into New Hampshire

and continue on more scenic two-lane roads

until we finally come to Lowes.

Needless to say, when we finally do a “Lowes Run” it’s a pretty big deal – and we spent about two hours in the store. Gary had a long list of items – everything from lumber and roofing to caulk and screws – to get the treehouse ready for use this summer. The good news is we had a special 10% promotional discount AND (as is always the case) there is no sales tax in New Hampshire. Gotta love that!

We made it home safely (after a yummy food truck lunch) and got everything unloaded. (Reality check – we took naps first!)
Untitled
It’s all staged, and I have this feeling that it will be under roof by the end of the day tomorrow!

To finish off a practically perfect Friday, we were blessed with a lovely sunset too.

Thanks for coming along on our mini-road trip!

Sunset Memories

Despite what my weather app told me last night, the cool and drizzly weather hung on today. If it crept into the 50’s, it wasn’t when I was outside. That much I know for sure. But regardless of the chill in the air, the delight of being here is not diminished one bit. And we know that brighter days are ahead! Here are some sunset memories to help you (and me!) remember what glory is waiting for us just around the bend!

Made it despite the weather!

I’m not going to say it rained the whole way from Montrose, PA to Bradford, VT.
Untitled
But I do think it’s safe to say we traveled on more wet roads than dry.

So we are thankful to report that we have arrived safely

and the fire is already taking the chill off!

(and the space heaters are doing their part too!).
We are so blessed to have this sanctuary in our family! I’d like to say that this month will be full of rest and relaxation, but Gary has aSteph treehouse he wants to get finished (or at least buttoned up) before the month is up. So his tools will be out and busy (and his helper (me) will be available when needed), but it really is his ‘love language’ and he can’t seem to help himself! Naps will happen, books will be read, and maybe even a little blogging will happen! You never know what can happen at The Cabin!

Thanks for stopping by!

May Day

Per Dictionary.com –
May Day
noun
the first day of May, long celebrated with various festivities, as the crowning of the May queen, dancing around the Maypole, and, in recent years, often marked by labor parades and political demonstrations.

Although our May Day was actually a long rainy road trip, it still was a celebration of sorts! During April, we facilitated a 250-person SOWER Rally, drove Lizzie (the RV) from East Texas to western Missouri, flew to Salt Lake City (that was just me – Gary stayed in MO) for a very special weekend with some of my nieces and my sister, worked at that Missouri ministry, drove Lizzie to Columbus, OH where we saw all of our Ohio kiddos and grands, and enjoyed a fabulous high school production of Mary Poppins. Then today we drove all day (okay, there were a couple of nap attacks along the way) to arrive here at Montrose Bible Conference, where dear Lizzie will rest for the next several weeks while we celebrate having made it through April at the Cabin.

Tomorrow we regroup, reorganize, and repack the truck.
